The Igreja do Carmo, or Igreja da Venerável Ordem Terceira de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, dates from the 17th century and was built to house the barefoot brothers of the Ordem Terceira do Carmo. Lay Carmelites. Its interior is filled with portuguese baroque gilded woodwork and its frontispiece has architectural details inspired by the works of Nicolau Nasoni.
Its interior is filled with the work of gilded carving typical of the Portuguese Baroque chain and its façade contains elements inspired by the works of Nicolau Nasoni.
On the side facade you can see the beautiful tiles representing the miracle, witnessed by the Israelites, centered on the prophet Elijah on Mount Carmel in Israel where he lived in isolation, and later lent his name to the religious order.
In May 2013 it was classified National Monument.
